  • Diabetes

  • A team of nurses, led by a Diabetes Speciality Nurse help patients with diabetes to self-manage and improve their overall health and wellbeing. Due to their expertise, they are able to care for our patients in the community, where once they would have had to attend hospital clinics.

For further information on diabetes, go to http://www.diabetes.org.nz
  • LTC - Long Term Conditions

  • Under our long-term conditions programme, eligible patients can receive a free annual consultation with a registered nurse, and two subsidised consultations with their GP.
Working together with your doctor or nurse, you will develop a plan for your care which may involve setting goals to manage your health and minimise complications. They will ensure you are aware of other services and supports available to help maintain your health and wellbeing.
If you think you may be eligible for the LTC programme, please ask your doctor or nurse.
  • Cervical Smear Clinics

  • Our registered nurses are qualified and experienced smear-takers. Patients can have a cervical smear with either their GP or a nurse.
  • Immunisations

  • Immunisation is one of the most effective ways of protecting yourself and your children from infectious diseases. The nurses at UHHC are all trained vaccinators and will provide this service for you and your family.

Scheduled childhood vaccinations are free of charge, as are flu vaccines for those over 65yrs and those with certain medical conditions. Boostrix (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough) is free and recommended for pregnant women from 28-38 weeks gestation to protect their newborn baby.

For more information on immunisations, visit  http://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/preventative-health-wellness/immunisation.
  • Cardiovascular Risk Assessments

  • Heart disease continues to be a leading cause of hospital admissions and deaths worldwide, so a healthy heart is a valuable asset.

Perhaps the most important indicators for cardiac risk are those of your personal health history. Age, hereditary factors, weight, cigarette smoking, blood pressure, exercise history, and diabetes are all important factors in determining your risk.

A heart check is recommended for people once they reach a certain age. The doctors and nurses at UHHC can advise you if you need a heart check and carry out a heart assessment for you.
  • Minor Surgery

  • A number of our doctors are skilled in minor surgical procedures. Examples are removal of skin lesions, insertion of contraceptive devices, ingrown toenails and steroid joint injections. Please discuss any of these procedures with your doctor so appointments can be booked appropriately
  • Driving Medicals

  • For the safety of everyone on our roads, all drivers must be medically fit to drive. You have to prove that you are medically fit every time you apply for, or renew, or replace your drivers' licence.

Driving medicals are carried out by the GPs at UHHC. Some examples are private, commercial and heavy traffic.

Please ring and make an appointment for your driving medical. Standard consult fee applies for a private driving medical. The commercial driving medical will cost $70.

For more information, go to http://www.nzta.govt.nz/driver-licences/getting-a-licence/medical-requirements/.
  • Aclasta

  • Aclasta is used to treat osteoporosis, to prevent additional fractures in vulnerable men and women and Pagets disease. We offer Alcasta services for patients but a doctor's referral is necessary.
  • Flu Vaccination

  • Influenza, commonly called "The Flu" can be a severe and sometimes life threatening infection, regardless of how fit and healthy you are.

Most people recover from the flu without complications.  For people >65 years, there is a higher risk of developing serious complications such as pneumonia.  So we recommend you take advantage of the FREE vaccine each year. If you are under 65yrs and with an ongoing medical condition, you may also be eligible. Please contact us to enquire about your eligibility.
  • Smoking Cessation

  • Please see our nurses and doctors for advice, tips and tricks on how to quit smoking as well as prescribed medications.
